Halloween: au pairs celebrate American-style!

Did you know? Other countries celebrate Halloween as well…but they just do it differently than we do here in the United States. For example, in Austria, families leave bread, water and a lamp out on a table on Halloween night to welcome dead souls back to earth. In Germany, people hide their knives to prevent harm from befalling the returning spirits. And, Swedes celebrate a six-day-long Halloween, starting with “Alla Helgons Dag,” or All Saints Day.

For au pairs here in America, October 31st is a chance to experience Halloween the way we do…in costume and with lots of candy! For the full article on how Lee Anna’s group celebrated and how other countries do it, read Saturday’s article in the Greenwich Post.
